Applesauce is a simple and nutritious food that’s easy to digest.

During the postpartum period, surgery, or healing of any kind - it’s especially important to focus your energy on healing and recovery rather than on heavy digestion. That’s why applesauce is such an excellent choice—it provides nourishment without taxing your system. Plus, it’s a fantastic first food for babies and a snack that kids absolutely love!

Why Make Applesauce at Home?

While store-bought applesauce may be convenient, it’s often highly processed, which can strip away many of its natural benefits. By making your own applesauce, you retain all the wholesome nutrients and flavors that make this food so special.

The Benefits of Applesauce

Homemade applesauce isn’t just delicious—it’s packed with health benefits! Here’s why it deserves a spot in your kitchen:

  • Rich in Fiber and Vitamin C: Supports overall health and boosts the immune system.

  • Helps Maintain Blood Sugar Levels: A great way to enjoy natural sweetness without causing sugar spikes.

  • Supports Gut Health: Apples contain prebiotics, which feed the good bacteria in your gut.

  • Improves Digestion: Its easy-to-digest nature makes it ideal for sensitive stomachs or recovery periods.

Whether you’re nourishing yourself postpartum, introducing solids to your baby, or preparing a healthy treat for your kids, homemade applesauce is a versatile and nutrient-packed option everyone will enjoy!

Gut Healing Applesauce

INGREDIENTS:

  • 5-6 apples of your choice

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (or to taste, can omit)

  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

INSTRUCTIONS:

Chop apples into small pieces.

Add to a medium sauce pan and cover with water.

Heat on high until boiling and boil for about 5 minutes or until apples are soft, not mushy. Stir cinnamon, lemon juice, and vanilla (if using). You can leave it chunky or transfer to a blend and blend until your preferred consistency.

Note: I leave the skin on because it has a lot of nutrients in it and it’s less time. But you can peel if you like.
